Citizens Commission on Human Rights to Host an Open Day Addressing Human Rights Abuses in the Field of Mental Health
Dublin, Ireland — On Sunday, 17 May at 2:30 PM, Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) will host a public Open Day focusing on human rights abuses in the field of mental health. The event will take place at the Church of Scientology & Community Centre of Dublin, located on Firhouse Road, Dublin 24.

Titled “The Mental Health Industry: Help or Betrayal?”, the event will explore concerns about patient rights, informed consent, and coercive or harmful practices within the field of mental health.
This event follows on from a public exhibition by CCHR in February at the Gresham Hotel in Dublin, which presented historical documentation, as well as personal accounts highlighting controversial practices and reported human rights abuses within psychiatry. The exhibition generated significant public response, including dozens of abuse victims coming forward to reveal their own experiences and seek assistance.
The upcoming Open Day aims to expand on the concerns raised and to provide a platform for further discussion and action to eliminate human rights abuses in the mental health system.

Founded in 1969 by the Church of Scientology and Professor of Psychiatry Dr. Thomas Szasz, CCHR is a nonprofit mental health watchdog. It has helped enact over 180 laws worldwide aimed at protecting individuals from abusive or coercive psychiatric practices and advocates for informed consent, transparency in diagnosis and treatment, and the right to refuse harmful interventions.
